About This Game
Grove Defender is a classic-shaped tower defense with a woodland skin and enough upgrade depth to keep the maps interesting after you've beaten them. Five maps — Whispering Grove, Sunken Marsh, Cliffside Watch, Mosswood Ruins and Frozen Pass — each run their own path, and each tower family branches into two very different specialists rather than simply getting a bigger number.
That branching is where the game lives. An Arrow Tower becomes either a Sniper or a Volley Grove; a Frost Tower becomes a Glacier Core or a Permafrost Field; Flame goes to Inferno Mortar or Wildfire Ring; Arcane Sniper to Void Lance or Prism Array. The branch you pick shapes the rest of the run, and Grove Talents carry permanent progress across every run you play.
How to Play
Click a clearing to build a tower there, and press Esc to cancel if you change your mind. Click any placed tower to open it — you can upgrade it along one of its two branches, or sell it back if the run has gone a different direction than you planned. Towers marked with a ✈ can hit flying enemies; the rest can't, which matters more than it sounds.
Waves arrive on a countdown, and you can hit Start Wave Now to call the next one early if you're ready. Survive the wave list on each map and an Ancient Ogre boss closes it out. Grove Talents, opened from the menu, spend earned progress on permanent bonuses that apply at the start of every future run.
Strategy Tips
- Keep at least one anti-air tower covering the path at all times. A ground-only board looks fine until a flying wave walks straight through it untouched.
- Commit tower branches to roles rather than picking the highest damage number — a Permafrost Field that slows a whole corridor makes every other tower on the map better.
- Calling waves early with Start Wave Now is free value when your defense is already comfortable, and it's the main way to get ahead on income.
- Selling is not a failure. A tower stranded on a corner the path no longer favors on a later map is worth more as refund toward a better placement.
- Spend Grove Talents before starting a hard map, not after failing it — they apply at run start, so a talent bought mid-run does nothing until you replay.
